The person you become when you do the work, is the work.

As Gilgamesh stepped into the mountain cave, darkness enveloped him, a tangible cloak of uncertainty that tested his resolve from the first step. He moved forward, the darkness unyielding, a constant companion in his solitary journey.

In a world where the path ahead and the path behind blurred into one, Gilgamesh trusted his gut, his only guide through the suffocating blackness.

Deeper into the cave, beyond the reach of any trail, the very air began to whisper of change. A gentle breeze kissed his face, a harbinger of light in the oppressive dark. Many leagues into his journey, the subtle shift foretold the nearing exit, a promise that perseverance leads to enlightenment.

This narrative mirrors our deepest endeavors, where the senses heighten, and presence becomes the compass guiding us through uncertainty. I marvel at those who, like Gilgamesh, press on without the assurance of success, embracing paths whose ends they cannot see.

Seth Godin captures this spirit, stating, “The real work is doing the thing that matters for people who care without knowing if it will even work.” Initially, I saw merit only in the first part of this statement—the significance of meaningful work. Now, I understand the profound importance of its conclusion.

True work demands we step into the unknown, transforming in the process. It’s not about the outcome but the journey of becoming. Gilgamesh, in the consuming darkness, evolved with every step, embodying the essence of work. It’s not the tangible achievements that define our paths but the growth we undergo when faced with uncertainty.

Thus, may we all find the courage, like Gilgamesh, to continue on our paths, especially when the way forward is unclear. Let us stride into the unknown, for it is in facing the uncertainty that we grow and discover true rewards. This is the call—to seek out our own gardens, meet our wizards, and reflect in our fountains, embracing the journey as much as the destination.
